Last September was needless to say a little gloomy around here... The Eagle Creek Fire was absolutely devastating to Portland and the surrounding areas. The fire burned more than 48,000 acres, cost millions for firefighting efforts, left the area with extremely unhealthy air quality, and the list goes on. Most of the hikes along the Oregon side of the Gorge are still closed, including one of my all-time favorites, Munra Point. As soon as this area reopens, I highly recommend this hike and Friends of the Gorge is a wonderful organization to donate money to help the area recover from the fire. Munra Point is a HARD hike and might be terrifying if you don't like heights (like me!), but the views are beyond spectacular and this place is truly magical. Here are some of the photos from the two times I have done this hike and I can't wait to get back up there!
Fivemile Butte Lookout is in the Mt. Hood national forest and is available to rent overnight, but it is extremely popular and is typically booked out for months! I got super lucky and booked this lookout last year and it was one of the coolest adventures in the area that I've experienced. We had to park at the Billy Bob Sno-Park and hike in 3 miles, with food, water, bedding, and clothes. It was quite the trek in the snow, but once we were up there and were the only people around for miles it was well worth it. At 40 feet from the ground, the cabin swayed back and forth during the middle of the night because it was so windy, which kinda freaked me out. Haha. We woke up in the morning to a foot of fresh snow! So FUN!!!
This is a small collection of some of my favorite west coast adventures I've been on in the past 5 years. Getting fresh air and seeing these beautiful places makes me feel grounded and present. It is truly one of the best things I have incorporated into my lifestyle and there is so much more to see... I feel extremely lucky to live in such a wonderful part of this world. Hope you enjoy these photos just as much as I do! xoxo
Lately, all I can think about is my upcoming vacation with my family to the San Juan Islands. This is a special trip for all of us because we are heading to a place where we went camping every summer during my childhood. The San Juan Islands are stunning and such an amazing place to go to escape and slow life down a little. We plan to make meals on the campfire, swim in the lake, play gin rummy for hours, read books, eat s'mores until our bellies hurt, lay in the hammock, go shop in the small island towns, ride the ferry and enjoy every second we have with one another. Yes, this all means, I absolutely can not wait! Here are some items I'd love to travel with:
One of my best friends and I finally took the trip we had been dreaming of for the past four years. We pulled the plug and booked tickets to Spain and Portugal this past spring and had no idea what we were getting ourselves into. It is amazing how things come together and you get to experience adventures with someone you hold so dear to your heart. Neither one of us had been to Spain or Portugal, so it was all new territory for us. By far one of my favorite destinations of our trip was the breathtaking Balearic Island, Mallorca. The island is covered with mountains, farm land, cliffside's and crystal clear beaches. There were moments on the trip that truly took my breath away. I can't wait to go back to this enchanting part of the world. Here are just a few of the many, many pictures I took.
One of the many great things about Portland is that it's only an hour away from the coast. It feels amazing to just pick up and leave for the afternoon to watch the sunset on our picturesque coastline and breathe the salty ocean air. Here are a few pictures, unedited, from a few months ago.
Spring has sprung and it is making me think of great road trips in the PNW. I went to Crater Lake a few years back and it was beyond beautiful. It was in the summer during the warmest days of the year and so I jumped in the lake for a little cool down. Yes, it was cold water… but it felt so clean and refreshing! There is only a few spots around the lake you can actually swim in, including Cleetwood Cove, shown in the pictures below. I can't wait to go back and see these glorious shades of blue!
Playing around with some marbling techniques on my photos from a recent trip to Palm Springs and loving it! ;)
A few weeks ago I went to Redmond to stay with some of my best friends and they took me on this lovely hike in Sisters, OR. We had no clue that it would snow on us, but it made it so magical and then as we got closer to the shelter the sun came out. We had a fire, ate some snacks and had a few brews! It was a really good day.
Roundup of some rad backpacks. Can I have them all?!?
The clean air, beautiful colors, silence... I am always inspired by the greater outdoors. It is one of my favorite places to be and it helps me clear my mind. Here are just a few of the photo's I have taken over the past few months!
This cold and rainy weather in Portland is making me long for the warm sun down in Cali I experienced a few weeks ago... For the time being I will be bundling up and daydreaming by looking at pictures. I found these cute sandals in Elle magazine and thought I would share for the Portlanders that might be going on vacation! ;)
After going on a mini camping trip this past weekend for my birthday, I felt inspired by the camping vibe and threw together this little mix of things I love!
Throw back thursday! I designed this wedding dress for my cousin a few years back. She wanted a second dress to do a "trash the dress" photo shot after the ceremony in Mexico and asked me to create her one. I had to keep in mind the way the fabric would react in the water along with the silhouette and recovery of the fabric once it was underwater! It all started with concept sketches of dress ideas, then moved on to the actual pattern drafting and constructing the dress. Making this was so special and it meant the world to me to actually see her in it as well down in the Riviera Maya, Mexico, at their intimate wedding.
Never to late to feel inspired by America. The warm summer air is so nostalgic and joyful; it is almost hard to sleep knowing it is so beautiful outside... Summer is all about road trips and spending time with loved ones having BBQ's in the backyard. Here is a roundup of a few things that inspire my summer:
The NW has so many beautiful places to visit and explore, I can't seem to get enough of it! I plan to share some of them on here, to get you all out there! :) We took a weekend trip to visit one of my very best friends and they took us on this great hike at Smith Rock. Even with it being overcast skies, the scenery was amazing. Once we got to the top to enjoy the views. we drank our beers and took some cool pictures. Here are just some of them.
Light weight, quick to dry, super absorbent and obviously really cute... Turkish towels are amazing. I have bought four in the past few months and can't get enough! Use one on a flight as a blanket or as a scarf to finish off an outfit or to dry off after a surf day! I might even use these for my household towels because they are much more eco friendly than regular towels due to the quick dry time! If you live in the Portland area there is a great store in SW Portland called Indigo Traders and they have a great selection. Now if you don't live in the NW, here are some of my favorites from online (including a couple light weight beach blankets):
Well, after one month of being back in Oregon from our trip to Costa Rica, I am still sorting and editing all my pictures... Yes, I did go a little crazy with my camera on vacation! I thought I would share just a few of my favorites that I have come across. I promise to post more pictures and info about all the contacts very soon. Pura Vida!
p.s. if you EVER get the chance to travel to Costa Rica, do it!!!
Off to the family cabin tonight for the weekend. Playing cards, reading books, walking on the beach, finding cool rocks, shopping the vintage store in town are just some of the activities we will be doing! Woot woot! So excited! Here is a outfit inspiration for the weekend:
